Rose — My third linoleum cut. Based on a doodle I did while visiting India many years ago.
Mecca — My first etching and the cover for An Awkward Echo.
Tango — My first thought was it looks like an odd chia pet. My brother looked at it and said it is two people dancing. Good, I said, it must be a tango.
Flowers — I based this loosely on a sixteenth century floral painting. I don’t believe it was Velvet Brueghel, although that is the first name that always comes to my mind when I look at it.
Self-portrait — started off very simple, you can still see the broad lines around the eyes, but as I scribbled at it, the drawing took on an interesting chiaroscuro effect. From a distance it really does sort of look like me — problem is you just can’t get far enough away.
Saint John the Baptist — this etching is based on Bosch’s painting of St. John the Baptist. The upper panel contains images from other Bosch paintings — the winged fish at the very top, however, is me trying to create a Bosch-like image.
